In the Chemistry Club, students get involved in a wide range of activities from making and selling scented soap to hands-on demonstrations in the lab. It’s a great way to connect with like-minds and socialize with others in chemical and environmental sciences. The Sheridan Chemistry club meets biweekly at the Davis campus.
Here are some of the things we do, and have done:
- Creative Chemistry: A biannual community outreach event held in partnership with the Brampton Library. Student volunteers engaged with young children and their families in various chemistry experiments to help garner interest in the STEM field.
- Halloween Party: A social gathering for Chemistry Club members to help students de-stress with their assignments and tests mid-semester. Students participated in a pumpkin-carving competition while also enjoying board games and Halloween-themed movies.
- Region of Peel Water Treatment Plant Tour: A field trip to the Region of Peel’s Lakeview Water Treatment Plant in Mississauga. Students were shown the various stages involved in the OBM treatment process being utilized at the facility (ozone, biologically active carbon, membrane filtration).
- National Engineering Month – Women in Tech: As part of OACETT’s National Engineering Month Challenge, the Chemistry Club hosted a ‘Women in Tech’ event to celebrate and showcase the accomplishments of various female professionals in the STEM field. Students were also able to network with our guest speakers and ask questions regarding their education and career path in their industry.
