DESCRIPTION:Welcome all new and returning students to ISSessions. \nJoin us this Thursday for our Welcome to ISSessions 2021-22 where none other than John Simpson will be presenting his annual talk on the Wonderful World of InfoSec \nAGENDA\n7:00 – Kick-Off\n7:05 – News Round-Up\n7:30 – Discussion Night\n8:00 – Break\n8:10 – The Wonderful World of Information Security \n———————-\nJohn Simpson\nJohn graduated from the Sheridan Information Systems Security program in 2015 and is currently a vulnerability researcher and team lead with Trend Micro in Toronto. He started his career with a coop position at Deloitte and stayed on board after graduation\, working in Security Operations Center engineering and vulnerability assessment/penetration testing roles. In his current position\, John reverse engineers vulnerabilities to write proof-of-concept exploits and devise network detection strategies to catch exploitation attempts. During the last 5.5 years in his current role\, he has discovered several new vulnerabilities\, authored blog posts for Trend Micro and Zero Day Initiative\, and spoken at several conferences. \nThe Wonderful World of Information Security\nJohn will be presenting the 2021 version of his annual talk “The Wonderful World of Information Security\,” which aims to provide students new to the program with an overview of the potential career paths in the Information Security industry as well as his tips for success in navigating the Information Systems Security degree program at Sheridan and the early stages of a career in InfoSec. \nCheck us out and tune in to our virtual meetings on Discord or YouTube

DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the 2021 ISSessions CTF competition. Register today! \nWho:         Cybersecurity students enrolled in a post-secondary institution in Ontario\, Canada\nWhere:      From the comfort of your home (it’s all online)\nWhen:       March 27 from 9 AM – 9 PM AND March 28 from 9 AM – 6 PM\nRegistration Opens March 2\, 2021 \nThe online Capture the Flag event targets all years; first\, second\, third or even fourth; we welcome and encourage all! With challenges ranging in difficulty from very basic to intermediate\, and over 100 challenges in categories like Forensics\, Data Analysis\, Threat Hunting\, Web\, and many more\, this CTF is truly for all students! Teams of 1 – 4 are accepted; teams of 3 – 4 students are highly recommended. \nThere will also be mini-workshops throughout both days like ‘N-Day Vulnerability Research’\, ‘Wireshark Primer’ and ‘Bluetooth Hacking’ brought to you by our sponsors.
